Checklist for Screening a Caregiver
Job Application
The collection of job applications is the best way to review possible applicants while having the
convenience of being able to reduce the list of candidates.
Resumes
Resumes also allow the convenience of being able to narrow down the number of applicants that
need to be interviewed. They provide important information such as contact information,
experiences, achievements, etc.
Interview Process
An interview process should be well-prepared so that characteristics, values, behavior, and any
other questions can effectively reveal the candidate's ability to meet the job description of a
caregiver.
Reference Check
An applicant may include certain job experiences on their application or resume. However, it may
be wise to make certain that these experiences are accurate. Reference checks are done by
calling the applicant's previous employer(s) or references to determine further information about
them and to see what type of information regarding the applicant's background that another
individual may be able to provide.
Background Check
Criminal background checks are essential due to the direct contact the applicant will have with
the client(s). A disclosure form is necessary to have signed by the applicant allowing their
employer to perform a background check on them. This covers the rights of the applicant as well
as the employer.
